Jean Claude de Mauroy stands out as one of the rare physicians specializing in Orthopaedic Medicine boasting half a century of expertise in the field of conservative, non-invasive treatment for scoliosis. Originating from Lyon, he continued the legacy of Pravaz, who authored the pioneering text on scoliosis physiotherapy two centuries ago.
Alongside Georges Mollon and Pierre Stagnara, he co-authored the seminal second volume on the Lyon Method of physiotherapy in 1976. Simultaneously instructing the Lyon physiotherapy approach, Jean Claude de Mauroy invented the ARTbrace, a modern alternative to the traditional plaster cast brace that enables direct correction on the patient.
Serving as President of SIRER and formerly of SOSORT, he has encountered a variety of established physiotherapy techniques, allowing him to analyze them through a biomechanical lens. After publishing research on how braces function, he collaborated with Tony Betts to investigate the mechanisms behind exercises specific to each validated physiotherapy method. Beyond focusing solely on methodology, his objective is to equip physiotherapists with the knowledge to select the most suitable exercises for individual patients and to identify any potential conflicts between different techniques.
